Faucet & Sink Repair · Gainesville, FL

Faucet and Sink Repair in Gainesville, FL

Faucet and sink repair covers the kitchen, bathroom, laundry and outdoor fixtures you use every day. That means dripping spouts, leaking handles, weak flow, loose faucets, leaking drains under the sink and the shutoff valves that feed them. It also covers replacing a faucet or sink outright.

Most of this is routine work. Water pouring from under a sink cabinet isn't, and the phone is answered 24/7 for that.

Hard water and Gainesville faucets

Every faucet in a GRU home runs water at about 8.2 grains per gallon of hardness. The minerals leave white crust on the spout and, more importantly, inside the cartridge and aerator where you can't see them. Handles get stiff, flow gets weak, and seals wear faster against the gritty buildup.

An aerator is the easiest thing to fix yourself. Unscrew it, soak it in white vinegar for an hour, rinse and reinstall. If the flow is still weak afterward, the cartridge is the next suspect.

If scale is showing up on every fixture and the water heater too, the long-term fix is at the source. A properly sized water softener handles hardness, and under-sink water filtration handles taste and chlorine.

The shutoff valve under the sink

Many older homes still have multi-turn shutoff valves under their sinks. After years of hard water and no use, they either won't close or start dripping the moment someone turns them. That usually gets discovered in the middle of an emergency.

When we work on a faucet, we test the shutoffs too. A stuck or leaking valve gets replaced with a quarter-turn valve that closes with a flick, so the next person who needs it can actually use it.

Repair or replace the faucet?

Good-quality faucets are built to be serviced. Replacing the cartridge on a name-brand faucet usually costs far less than a new one and brings it back to like-new operation.

Replacement makes sense when parts are no longer available, the finish is failing, the body itself is cracked, or you want a different style. A kitchen remodel is the natural time, and so is a bathroom project like a tub-to-shower conversion. We install faucets you buy yourself and check the new supply lines and valves while we're there.

Before you call

  • Close the shutoffs under the sink. Turn clockwise. If they won't move or they drip, say so, and don't force them.
  • Take a photo of the faucet and the brand name. It lets us bring the right cartridge on the first trip.
  • Clear out the cabinet. Under-sink leaks are easier to find and fix with the space empty.
  • Note whether it's hot, cold or both. It tells us which side of the valve has failed.

Sinks, drains and outdoor spigots

  1. Leaking drains. Slip nuts, trap washers and basket strainers under kitchen and bathroom sinks are resealed or replaced.
  2. New sinks. Undermount and drop-in sinks are set, sealed and connected, with the drain reworked if the new sink sits differently.
  3. Laundry and utility sinks. Leaking faucets and drains fixed, and new tubs installed.
  4. Hose bibs and outdoor faucets. Dripping spigots rebuilt or replaced, with frost-proof models where the pipe is exposed.

An outdoor spigot that split during a freeze is often part of a bigger problem inside the wall. That's a job for emergency burst pipe repair.

What affects the price of faucet and sink work

  • Repair or replacement. A cartridge costs far less than a new faucet and install.
  • Parts availability. Common brands are quick. Older or obscure faucets can take longer to source.
  • Shutoff valves. Replacing seized valves adds a little to the visit and saves trouble later.
  • Sink type. An undermount sink swap in stone takes more work than a drop-in.

We handle faucet and sink calls throughout Gainesville and in Archer and the other towns we cover. Homes on private wells often see even more mineral buildup on fixtures than homes on city water.

Hardness per the GRU water quality FAQ. Fixture and valve work follows the Florida Building Code, Plumbing, based on the International Plumbing Code (IPC).

Faucet and sink questions

A slow drip wastes more water than most people expect, and GRU bills wastewater on the same metered use. It's worth fixing within days rather than months.

Yes. Close the shutoff valves under the sink first. If they won't close, shut the main. The line is answered 24/7.

Yes. We install faucets and sinks you've purchased and use new supply lines with them.

On Gainesville's hard water, aerators can clog within months. Clean the aerator first. If that doesn't help, the cartridge may have debris in it from installation.

Yes. We rebuild or replace hose bibs, and can install frost-proof models where pipes are exposed to the occasional hard freeze.

If they're old multi-turn valves that haven't been used in years, it's worth it. They tend to fail exactly when you need them.

That's water hammer. Fast-closing valves stop moving water suddenly, and the pressure wave shakes loose or unsupported pipe. High water pressure makes it worse. The fix can be securing the pipe, adding water hammer arrestors, or lowering the pressure, depending on the cause.
